The article “Riot Like a Girl? Gender-Stereotypical Associations Boost Support for Feminist Online Campaigns” by Marta Witkowska, Marta Beneda, Jan Nikadon, Caterina Suitner, Bruno Gabriel Salvador Casara, and Magdalena Formanowicz has been published in Sex Roles: A Journal of Research. The findings across three studies suggest that online feminist campaigns are perceived differently in terms of congruence with gender stereotypes, and campaigns that adhere more to feminine stereotypes garner more support. Specifically, campaigns that showcase more communal elements might be met with more social support, as opposed to actions and aims perceived as lacking these elements. Uncovering the stereotype-driven mechanisms reported in this article equips women with important knowledge that can guide decisions as to how to plan collective action and what costs and benefits such action may entail.
